The Museum of Natural Sciences
Back to all places
This little museum is one of the most vivid and developing museums in Bulgaria- Plovdiv’s Regional Museum of Natural History. Start in the Aquarium: a wrap of freshwater tanks from every continent and a central marine tank where reef fish swirl past living corals. Next, the Dinosaur Hall—roaring animatronic giants and real fossil teeth and bones—is a perfect thrill before you slow down in the Tropic Hall, where butterflies drift among lush plants. Upstairs, the galleries become a world tour: geology and glittering Rhodope minerals, then dioramas of invertebrates, reptiles, birds, and mammals that jump from Bulgaria’s forests to far-flung biomes. Finish in the digital planetarium for a 20-minute flight through the stars, then loop back for a last look at your favorite tanks. You should check the screening schedule at the ticket office. The museum is polished, family-friendly, and easy to do in about an hour or two—short, vivid, and unforgettable.
